Charter Homeschool

Question:
I'm looking for information on homeschoolers who work with school districts through a charter school. The state of Oregon is currently putting together a proposal to invite homeschoolers to participate in a new type of educational model. Homeschoolers would be allowed to spend their educational dollars on anything having to do with education and would work with homeschool coordinators.

Has anything like this been done in other states?

Answer:
-Wisconsin homeschoolers have been fighting this maneuver for about two years. See http://homeschooling-wpa.org/ for more info. You should find what you need to know in the issues and legislation section. These are called virtual charter schools or cyber charter schools. I hope you make it through this challenging time. Remember, nothing from the government is really free.

-Washington State has a similar program.

-I don't have the website, but you might check out Somis Elementary School.. We have an elementary home school within the school district, and are opening a Charter homeschool highschool this year. So far the homeschool has been successful - obviously the highschool will have to prove itself. Sorry I can't provide a link at the moment - just setting up a new computer and haven't figured out all the little stuff yet. There aren't too many "Somis"s though.
