Foster care and homeschooling
|
Question:
After the threads on CPS and foster care I have a question. Has anyone out
there homeschooled foster children?
I eventually want to bring foster children into my home and the more I think
about it the more it seems as if homeschooling might be a wonderful way to
bond with these children.
Answer: - We have not had foster children, but we plan on being foster parents in a
couple of years (getting a larger house and having another baby first :o) I
will homeschool the foster children if I can.
From what I read about foster care and homeschooling, CPS has to agree that
you can homeschool them, is that right?
- I live in Washington state and did a seach at DSHS. They weren't any help.
I did get directed to a Whatcom county website, but when I tried the link
the URL wasn't good. I tried putting in searches at lycos such as
homeschool foster care, home school foster care, and home-school foster care
but there wasn't anything. If you find any information I would like to
know.
- I have a friend who foster/adopted three siblings. They asked for and
got permission to homeschool them along with the rest of his family.
While they were under the court juristriction(sp?), they used Oak
Meadow to make it look more official to the court.
They found that the children bonded to the rest of the family
very well, when they were altogether at home.
Home Education magazine once mentioned a small study about the positive
effects of homeschooling foster children.
